Uses of Potassium Permanganate for Koi Fish

Table of Contents

Potassium permanganate is an inorganic chemical compound and medicine. As a medicine, this compound is used to clean wounds and dermatitis. This compound has the chemical formula KMnO₄ and is a salt containing K⁺ and MnO−4 ions. This compound is a strong oxidizing agent.

The following are some of the uses of potassium permanganate (PK) in the world of aquaculture.

1. Clean the fish. PK (potassium permanganate can clean dirt stuck to fish, usually PK is used to clean fish from the outside before entering quarantine / ponds.

2. Fish treatment. Apart from cleaning fish, pk can be used in fish medicine. PK can kill several microorganisms attached to fish such as bacteria, fungi, lice, etc.

3. Clean the pool. PK can also clean the pool. The PK solution that is poured into the pool will kill all microorganisms in the pool. Giving PK must be done carefully and according to procedures. Giving too much PK will damage the fish’s body tissue.

Here’s the recommended way to use PK.

If used to soak or clean fish, that is by: 1. Dissolve PK in water. The dose commonly used is 2 to 5 milligrams per liter of pool water. 2. Soak the fish in the PK solution for a maximum of 30 seconds. 3. Rinse the fish with clean water and you can put the fish in the pond.

If used to clean a pool: 1. Dissolve the PK in the water in the basin (comparison to the water in the pool). 2. Pour the PK solution evenly into the pool. 3. Wait for 2-3 hours 4. Drip the pool water until it is clear again.
