This type of fish is known as ‘Domas’ and has been known for a long time as a carp variety native to Indonesia. According to Abah Putnus, in 2009 this koi could measure up to 5kg (50-60cm). This koi is the original koi of local Indonesian breeders, especially in the Sukabumi area and its surroundings.
At first glance, Domas ‘Banana Koi’ resemble the character of kin Kabuto in the Kawarimono class in the Japanese koi classification. The main distinguishing character is in the scales. The scales are larger than normal and resemble ginrin scales, only with little to no shine. So the scale characteristics of Domas Koi ‘Banana Koi) do not include dragon scales nor doitsu (without scales).
His appearance at the koi show aroused passion among the judges, they were enthusiastic and even tried to appreciate his presence. Either because of pity and sympathy, or because the character is strong and attractive, hopefully for the second reason.
In 2017 these koi took part in the Koi Show and some won their class. Japanese judges call this koi Kin Kabuto, while Malaysian, Singaporean and Thai judges call it Banana Koi.
