Kumonryu originates from Japan and first appeared in the 1960s. The name “Kumonryu” is translated as “cloudy dragon” or “misty dragon”.
Kumonryu is known for its dynamic and changing color patterns. They have a dark base color such as black or navy with a contrasting white pattern.
The main uniqueness of Kumonryu is its ability to change color according to the season or water conditions. In winter, their kumonryu tend to be darker, while in summer they are lighter in color.
Apart from Kumonryu, there is also the Beni Kumonryu type. “Beni” means red in Japanese.
The characteristic of beni kumonryu is that it has the addition of red elements to its color pattern. Certain parts, especially the fins and body, show striking colors.
The addition of red adds a dramatic element to the kumonryu look, creating a stunning combination of dark and light.
