The Dactylogyrus SP parasite is a parasite in the form of a flatworm which is included in the trematode class of parasites which usually attack the gills so they are called gill worms.
Parasitic infections in fish gills can make the fish’s gills become pale and swollen, the fish’s breathing increases, excessive mucus production in the gills, the fish’s color becomes pale, appetite decreases and the fish becomes emaciated.
Transmission of this parasitic disease occurs through direct contact between fish or infection from other fish in the same pond.
Prevention of infection with this parasite can be done by carrying out good fish maintenance management by providing appropriate feed, fish density according to standards, stabilizing the pond water temperature, regular water changes to reduce excess levels of organic matter.
Meanwhile, treatment can be done by soaking the fish in 3 ppm Methylene Blue solution for 24 hours, 4 ppm potassium permanganate (PK) for 12 hours, 2% Na CL solution for 30 minutes.
