Shiro Utsuri is a type of koi variety which only has two colors, namely black and white. Like the name ‘utsuri’ which means ‘reflection’, and ‘shiro’ which means ‘white’ in Japanese, the appearance of this koi is similar to the pattern on a chess board.
In the Utsuri family, several variants are known besides Shiro Utsuri, namely Ki Utsuri with a yellow base color and Hi Utsuri with a red color. Meanwhile, Utsuri has a metallic color, there are Kin Ki Utsuri, Kin Hi Utsuri and Gin Shiro, but this type of metallic Utsuri is quite rare or difficult to obtain.
Large sized Koi fish are usually dominated by ogon or kawarimono types of koi such as Chagoi and others. And in various Koi (Koi Show) contests, usually those who emerge as Grand Champion winners with large sizes (jumbo) come from the Gosanke category, namely Kohaku, Sanke and Showa. Meanwhile, the Utsuri Jumbo type is still rarely found.
There is a Shiro Utsuri type Koi which is super large. If you look at the picture, many people don’t think that Koi Shiro Utsuri is 100 cm long. The owner is a big koi hobbyist from Malaysia, namely Yap Thiam Hoi. He explained that the koi was about 10 years old.
The female koi came from the breeder Omosako Farm Japan which he bought 8 years ago. At that time, he was only 2 years old and 50 cm long.
