In 1910, a koi breeder in Japan, Yoshigoro Akiyama, crossed the Asagi-Sanke with a scaleless glass carp. Then produce shusui. Koi shusui is a scaleless fish, it only has a row of scales on its back. Koi shusui belongs to the doitsu family.
The main colors of koi shusui are dark blue, bluish, red and milky white, but some special koi shusui are also turquoise. It can be said that shusui is a Japanese koi fish that is quite special and even very different from other koi varieties.
How to assess the quality of shusui:
1.The head is pure white (milk white).
2. The row of scales on the back is blue with a tight arrangement of scales, unbroken and looks neat (balanced).
3. On the cheeks (gill covers), the stomach and at the base of the pectoral fins there is a bright red pattern (symmetrical).
4. Eyes, nose and mouth must not be red.
Types of shusui:
A. Hana Shusui. Shusui has a red pattern that extends between the upper row of scales and the abdomen.
B. Hi Shusui. The red color spreads from bottom to top to cover the entire dorsal area (back).
C. Ki Shusui. Shusui is yellow.
