Koromo is the result of a mixed marriage (hybrid) between Asagi and Kohaku. This type of koi fish is still included in the Sanshoku family (Koi with 3 colors). In Japanese, ‘Koromo’ means ‘robed’, ‘clothed’ or ‘veiled’. Koromo is a non-metallic Koi with a pattern type that is very similar to Kohaku, Sanke or Showa.
Koromo Koi Type
Ai Koromo
The word ‘Ai’ (Japanese) means light blue or indigo. So Ai Goromo is a Koi with a light blue color. The blue color comes from Mother Asagi, while the red color and pattern is from Kohaku.At the edge of the red pattern, there are light blue gradations (sashi) around it and it forms a net-like pattern.
Budo Koromo
The word ‘Budo’ (Japanese meaning ‘grape’ or ‘a thousand grapes’). Budo Goromo is a descendant of Asagi and Kohaku which is quite rare because it has a dark purple color, forming a pattern like a string of grapes. The pattern composition on Budo Goromo will also follow the type of pattern on Kohaku.
Sumi Koromo
The word ‘Sumi’ in Japanese means black. The appearance of a Sumi Goromo is marked with black over Kohaku’s red pattern. Goromo’s Sumi color is really black, not dark blue, which extends to the head. This type of koi is also very rare. However, because the black color on Sumi Goromo is uneven, it will look less neat and not as attractive as the appearance of Budo or Ai Goromo.
Koromo Sanke
This Koromo Sanke type of koi is a combination of Ai Goromo and Sanke. The light blue color is slightly visible above the red pattern.
Koromo Showa
Koromo Showa are the descendants of Ai Goromo and Showa. The light blue color also appears above the red pattern.
