Table of Contents

Ochiba shigure or commonly called ochiba is a koi with a brown/copper and gray/silver color pattern with a net pattern on its scales.Ochiba is known by its long name Ochiba Sigure which literally translates as “autumn leaves on water”. The perfectly shining color of the scales gives the impression of leaves floating on water. The color patterns on ochiba shigure which have gray, yellow, copper or bronze colors give the impression of leaves falling in autumn.

The Ochiba Koi is included in the Kawarimono family. Ochiba is the result of a cross between Soragoi (grey Koi with scales forming a net pattern) and Chagoi (golden brown Koi). Both koi (soragoi and chagoi) have very tame characteristics, so Ochiba Shigure is also tame.

The results of crossing various koi varieties produce increasingly diverse ochiba. Various types of ochiba currently found include Doitsu Ochiba, Ochiba Ginrin, Metallic Doitsu Ochiba. Apart from the above types of ochiba, Ochiba has also been born as a result of a cross between chocolate chagoi and Kohaku. The result is ochiba that forms a muddy red pattern that looks like fallen leaves in a pond.
