Basic Kikokuryu

There are several types of kikokuryu. The first one is, Basic Kiko has a bluish white color and sumi all over its body. The basic color of the shiro (white) koi should be a beautiful pure white with no areas of faded or dull color. For sumi (black) coloring, the ideal color is deep, dark black with an even color throughout. The younger the koi, the more likely the sumi will appear blue because it is not yet fully developed, so blue patterns are acceptable on young koi.

Furthermore, good Beni Kiko has bright colors with clear sharp edges for each color, as well as an overall balanced appearance in the pattern. Skin luster/metallic sheen is also an important factor when assessing the quality of the breed. The kiwa (edge) of each color plate on the back pattern must have a sharp edge all around. You don’t want to see smudged or faded edges on these color plates. The color of the body and fins must also be strong.

Beni Kikokuryu

There is also a good Kin Kiko which has bright colors with clear sharp edges for each color, as well as an overall balanced look in the pattern. Skin luster/metallic sheen is also an important factor when assessing the quality of the breed. The kiwa (edge) of each color plate on the back pattern must have a sharp edge all around. You don’t want to see smudged or faded edges on these color plates.
